Hayes Valley

Andrew Gierke

Trained as an architect — MArch from Penn, where I studied parametric and morphogenetic design under Cecil Balmond and Roland Snooks. The work was computational, generative, and a little obsessive. When the housing market collapsed in 2008 I pivoted to software. Mostly self-taught. Taught iOS engineering in Utah, shipped at scale as Staff Sr. iOS Engineer at realtor.com, led product and design as VP at Unison, and shaped the NFT standard for the Solana chain as Sr. Product Designer at Metaplex. A few startups and agencies along the way, some more successful than others. I care about design the way Judd cared about objects — not decoration, not minimalism as a style, but things that don't explain themselves. Quietly beautiful, or blunt and functional. Exactly what they need to be and nothing else. Based in Hayes Valley, SF. Equal parts art neighborhood and tech bubble, which feels about right
